Stewardship as a Governance Model

David Long | Mar 28, 2011

Bob Lewis has been a favorite trade magazine columnist for years and always has interesting views on our industry. While this article isn't directly related to SharePoint governance it definitely touches on the philosophy around developing the governance models for our implementations. We typically talk about the "benevolent dictator" versus the "absentee landlord" models. Most tend to want to take on the benevolent dictator role which is to be expected of most IT departments. End users may not agree with that approach as it tends to inhibit productivity. We need to continue to push our IT stakeholders to embrace the steward mentality over the dictator approach while still providing for a manageable environment. Not easy, but worth the effort.
