The product is the first business application designed by Microsoft to leverage the Microsoft .net platform. It consists of a CRM platform with CRM-type services exposed through SOAP APIs that interface with a Microsoft SQL Server 2000–based database. On top of this platform is built a set of C# CRM applications for sales, marketing and customer service that are accessed through a Web browser for online functionality and through a Microsoft Outlook–based client for offline access.
The application has rich functionality in both sales and customer service areas with thin functionality in the marketing automation space—all designed with the needs of today's businesses. In addition, there is functionality that integrates the application directly with Microsoft enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications, as well as a set of tools that make it easy to deploy the product with a business’s core business processes in mind.
