Last year at this time, I was thinking about what 2010 would bring. This year is a lot different.
It’s amazing how having a baby really makes you anticipate what the future holds. Not just the issues that will play out over the next couple of years, but the long-term future. It occurred to me the other day that my little girl could easily live to see the 22nd Century. Yes, she will be 90 in the year 2100 – but it’s definitely possible with better healthcare and longer life expectancies. What will the world look like through her eyes?
She will likely have seen multiple female presidents and major corporations dominated by women.
PDAs, iPads and all other wireless devices will be ancient. Everything she needs will probably be accessed through augmented reality, a hologram of a screen that’s controlled by the neurons in her brain.
Will alternative energy be an oxymoron?
How will healthcare be delivered? With new technologies, she could be treated by a doctor in the comfort of her own home.
How will people interact? Social media could just be the tip of the iceberg. Will she get married without having ever met?
Only time will tell, but as a dad I’m both excited and anxious about what she’ll experience over her lifetime.
