I was recently at dinner with a customer and one of our practice area directors. The conversation circled around to politics, and the question was posed: if you could pick anybody to be President of the U.S. - regardless of age, experience or any other factors - who would it be?
The answers were all over the board. Here are some of the people mentioned around the table: Michael Bloomberg, Bill Gates, Tony Blair, Colin Powell, Newt Gingrich and Jack Welch.
Obviously these men come from various backgrounds and political parties, but they all have one thing in common: vast management experience.
The conclusion our group came to was that our country needs someone who really understands how to run a business and command fiscal responsibility. We have a lot of tough decisions around the national debt. Healthcare reform, Social Security, military defense, education and alternative energy - most politicians, Democratic or Republican, sent to Washington don't have the level of business experience needed to make the tough decisions on what and how to cut spending.
I'm curious. Who would you pick to be the President?
