Cloud Computing Virtualization
I met with a prospect we worked with at another company. She was telling me about her new company’s business; they have 4-5 websites and many different challenges managing all those servers. So I asked her “How many servers?” She replied, “Well, we have 2 raised floor rooms and about 40 servers.” I then asked her how big her IT staff was and she mentioned only 2 people. This is not a large company, under $12 million in revenue. We started talking about a number of solutions, such as virtualization and cloud computing, to assist them.
Here is a list of the solutions we discussed:
- Reduce the amount of physical servers
- Move many of the applications to a private cloud like what Tribridge offers
- Adding staff which was going to throw good money after bad
Cloud computing in combination with virtualization seems to make the most sense and the ROI was so easy to calculate. I am not saying that cloud computing is for everyone yet, but in this case it was an easy decision.
