As I look back at my career in healthcare, I am simply amazed at the massive changes that have taken place. I began as a Registered Nurse.  I chose this career because I am passionate about patients, their families and helping others in need. I fondly remember conversations in nursing school about what we  loved about the profession – and which path we might take - was it hospital-based nursing in Obstetrics, Orthopedics, Trauma or Surgery OR was it Homecare, Visiting Nursing, Hospice or even School Nursing?

I chose to work in a hospital on the surgical floor. After 2 years, I decided to move to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. It was high intensity, fast-paced and full of technology, especially around the patient room.

I learned how to use technology to closely monitor my patients, by the second, always watchful and observant. I learned how important it was to communicate with, not only the patient lying in the bed, but the family members who were full of anxiety. I was the patient advocate and an educator; I formed close relationships with my patients and their families.

As the years went by, I became more interested in the technology we were using to document the care we provided. Using computers meant that we were no longer scribbling notes and vital signs on tri-fold flowsheets. I transitioned my career from a bedside nurse to join a health information technology company.

I learned about an entirely different side of healthcare and I was eager to learn more. I entered a new world with Patient Registration, Patient Scheduling, Check-in, Check-out, Electronic Medical Records and Clinical Information Systems for all different roles. Physician Order Entry, Nurse Documentation, Pharmacy Solutions, Critical Care Solutions, Lab & Radiology Solutions and Patient Portals…the list goes on and on.

The industry has undergone so much change. Yet at the heart of it all, patient care still remains. Today, my focus is helping healthcare organizations work more efficiently and effectively with technology while providing the best patient care, even if that means the patient is not physically present.

How do we do that?

The answer is technology.  The solution is Tribridge Health360 – personalizing care experiences one person at a time.
