For more than 50 years, Carroll County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) has helped generation after generation reach better health. This 25-bed, critical access hospital supports four communities with services such as emergency room care, acute inpatient care, swing bed and home health care with widespread medical specialties. Additionally, CCMH operates four rural health clinics to support patients’ healthcare needs along with Lifestyle Fitness, a unique rehabilitation and fitness center. CCMH had been using a legacy system designed for large healthcare service providers. The system was difficult to navigate and did not give CCMH the access to the data they needed. “We could not get the information out of the system with the resources we had access to,” said Chief Revenue Officer, Amy Ireland. “Any time we needed a change or a new report it was a month-long process that involved external help. We needed a system that our users would be familiar and comfortable with and enabled us to be self reliant.”
“We also needed the ability to drill down to transaction-level detail for better analysis,” said Ireland. CCMH’s chart of accounts needed to be reconfigured to streamline the budgeting and financial statement process. In the legacy system, budgets were done external to the system, which required time-consuming duplicate entry. Additionally, auditors would request reports during the annual audit that were difficult to produce in the legacy system and again required external help.
